Winterize Your Boat

Read your owner’s manual for additional tips or take your boat to your service dealer to be winterized.

• Give the batteries a full charge. Store them in a cool place near an electrical outlet to recharge during the winter months.

• Fill the gas tank 3/4 full, and treat the fuel with stabilizer. Run the engine long enough to get treated gas into the fuel line and engine. This step is recommended

for regular or ethanol-blended gasoline.

• Flush the cooling system.

• Use an engine "fogger" to coat the internal parts with a protective film that resists rust formation in an idle motor. Spray the "fogger" into the carburetor until the engine stalls. Then remove the spark plugs, spray fogger into each cylinder, and replace the plugs.

• Change the gear oil in the lower unit and check for presence of any water in the lower unit.

• Replace the oil and oil filter. Dispose of used oil properly.

• Check the prop for nicks and fishing line. Apply a light coat of grease to the prop shaft.

• Inspect the steering systems, and tighten if loose.

• Spray a moisture-displacing lubricant onto electrical terminals and the fuse panel.

• Grease all motor fittings exposed to water and lubricate all cable ends that are exposed to weather.

• Check the trailer bearings and the tires.

• Clean boat inside and out, and cover when stored
